Patch for the BookSense XT 2.3 Upgrade

A new build of BookSense firmware version 2.3 to fix various issues in the original release, including undesirable sound quality in recordings and the inability to open BookShare books with numbers in the titles. Please visit the BookSense product pages on the Resource Center section of the website for download links and instructions.

V 6.0 Firmware Upgrade for Braille Sense and Voice Sense

Anyone running 5.21 or earlier, or running the 5.51 release may use the online method to upgrade.

Please note: HIMS International will upload the firmware after seeing this announcement, so please give them a bit of time to do so before overloading the server.

WARNING!! Anyone running version 5.5 MUST upgrade using the off line method. Even if you are able to see the online upgrade, using this method may cause harm to your unit requiring a repair. Please do NOT attempt it!!

Book Sense and Book Sense XT

A new version download is now available for Book Sense and Book Sense XT. Below you will find links and instructions for downloading the update to the 2.2 release (v2.21) for Book Sense and Book Sense XT. This software update fixes the following problems with the 2.2 upgrade:

  • Incomplete upgrade downloads, resulting in empty/invalid zip files
  • Distortion when speeding up audio
  • Problem of recognizing Serotek key when connected to PC
  • Crashing when deleting files

Be sure to read and follow the instructions and links for your particular product and situation as all installations are not the same.

Kurzweil 3000 Version 12 Network - Patches and Updates

This is a patch for Kurzweil 3000 NETWORK Version 12. It can be downloaded from: http://download.kurzweiledu.com/new_network_engine.zip

This update resolves an issue in the Kurzweil 3000 for Windows v12 Network Engine and Network Administrator which prevented a License-to-Go from being granted to a Kurzweil 3000 client that was connected to the Network Engine. This issue does not involve the Remote License-to-Go functionality that is used with the Kurzweil 3000 "Remote Client" software, so if you only use the Remote License-to-Go functionality, or do not use License-to-Go at all, you do not need to install this update.

IMPORTANT: Before installing this update you MUST uninstall any licenses back to the key device(s) they shipped on. After installing this update you can re-install all licenses. Failure to uninstall the licenses before installing this update will result in the loss of any installed licenses.

BookSense Buddy

The BookSense Buddy is a piece of software designed to provide beginner BookSense users a consistent and comfortable interface for transferring extracted or zipped DAISY books (Bookshare, NLS, and RFB&D), Audible audio books, supported documents (BRF, BRL, TXT, etc.) and audio files (MP3, OGG, FLAC, etc.) from your computer to your BookSense device. The BookSense Buddy also provides direct access to the latest version of the BookSense firmware for future updates.

ZoomText Express and Windows 7

AI Squared just released a patch for ZoomText Express that clears up any of the issues with Windows 7 compatibility. This is a free update for customers that already own the software and as long automatic updates are turned on, it will notify you when the program is launched. knfbReader Mobile Software Version 6.4 Released

knfbReader Mobile software 6.4 is now being released for U.S. and U.K. English only, several new features described below are being added as a free upgrade for all users.  This upgrade will also be released for other languages within the next few weeks.  To obtain this version of the knfbReader Mobile, please visit: http://www.knfbreader.com/licenses.php

New Features in This Release

Level Indicator — This provides information through audible beep tones to indicate whether and how much the Reader is tilted when held over the target.  True horizontal is indicated by the absence of beeps.  Beep pulsing increases as the Reader moves from horizontal toward vertical, and pulsing slows as the Reader becomes more level above the target.  Beeps will be heard if the Reader is tilted away, end to end, side to side or both  away from horizontal.  This feature only works in image capture and must be switched on or off in the settings menu.

Glare Report — This feature informs users if light from the camera or another source is causing glare to be reflected on the image.  The report is presented during image processing and will indicate whether the glare is some, moderate, or significant.  No glare is detected if a glare report is not provided.

Open Text File in Notes — This feature allows the text from a captured image to be displayed in the phone's text reading program called notes, rather than switching to the text reading screen during image processing.  With the text displayed in notes, the file is exposed to the phone's screen reader and may also be read with a supported Braille display.  Note that processing must finish completely before the notes file is opened and this feature can be switched on or off by going to the Reader settings menu.

Color Identifier — This feature provides a verbal report of color captured in an image by pressing 7 on the keypad at the image capture screen.  The report only includes a single color as seen by the camera.  Best results will normally be achieved with the camera flash turned on and when color detection images are captured in moderate in-door light.
