Adaptive Technology Evaluations
ATR’s professional adaptive technology evaluations are conducted or supervised by our licensed ATP* certified Occupational Therapists. These evaluations are conducted in ATR’s office or onsite at the client’s home, workplace or school. Technical evaluations include onsite Consultation, Workstation Evaluations and Written Evaluation Reports.
On-Site Consultation and Workstation Evaluations
On-site Consultation and Workstation Evaluations with client and other involved parties are available and include demonstration and assessment of assistive technology options related to a client’s needs. This evaluation allows ATR Staff to assess a home or work environment in terms of special accommodations that may be required. It also allows the client to sample different technology so that a recommendation of assistive technology can be based on the client’s hands-on experience.
When pertinent, Occupational Therapists also conduct testing in order to assess such things as a client’s organizational challenges, pain ratings, and ergonomic needs. Work simplification and energy conservation techniques can be reviewed with mobility impaired individuals. Low end adaptive technology alternatives and varying techniques that will help clients with their challenges are also offered.
Written Evaluation Reports
Written Evaluation Reports detailing how the client’s disability is affecting their vocational goals, assistive technology options, a client’s ability to use them and related home or worksite solutions are provided after on-site evaluations are completed. The report will be delivered electronically (email) or in hard copy (U.S. mail or fax) based upon counselor’s preference. When appropriate, digital photographs will compliment reports providing a visual “assessment and solutions walk-through”. Of course, our staff will be available for continued telephone support and consultation to both the client and the contracted agency.
Post Assessment Testing
Post Assessment Testing is conducted when a counselor needs information to support the continued use of adaptive technology with a client or when measured results are necessary.
Post Assessment Testing is conducted by one of ATR’s Occupational Therapists. It is designed to determine whether the consumer has adequate knowledge of the adaptive technology solutions provided and is integrating its use into his or her daily life. If there are ergonomic issues that need to be addressed, the Post Assessment Test will also include reporting on those results (including the success of ergonomic accommodations, change in length of time consumer is able to work, and change in comfort or pain level). Based on training and a Post Assessment Test, a counselor will have adequate information to determine which components of the adaptive hardware and software were used by the consumer and whether providing adaptive software and hardware will result in achieving the consumer’s stated vocational goal.
