Environmental Control Services

Environmental Control Services

Environmental Control Units (ECUs) offer individuals with mobility impairments access to devices in their home, school or place of business through voice commands, single or dual switch control, or head mouse or touch screen operation. With simple instructions, users control TVs; Cable & Satellite systems (including DVR); DVD & CD players; telephones; lights; fans; medical beds; door openers and more. ATR has been providing installation and training services for ECUs in Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Indiana, and Iowa since 1998.

Assessment

Phil Dellegrazio, President & Manager of Environmental Control Solutions, offers assessment services to those who are in need of ECUs. Attention to detail is critical. The gathering of information covers system accessibility throughout the user’s environment and includes the evaluation of...

  • User voice quality and optional switch control
  • Proper mounting hardware
  • Entertainment components that will be controlled by infrared signals (TVs, Cable & Satellite systems, DVD & CD Players, etc.)
  • Electrical devices to be controlled by radio signals (lights, fans, doors, etc.)
  • Telephone access (answer, dial-by-number, hang-up & speed dial)
  • Medical bed control
  • Appropriate radio frequency switches & their support components

Installation

ATR’s ECU installations can occur at the client’s home, school or place of business.

  • IR signals are tested as they are scanned; setup in ECU software; and (when necessary) assembled into macros that allow multiple functions to be performed with just one command (ECU specific).
  • RF signals are programmed to operate electrical devices
  • Mounting hardware is carefully placed for efficient use
  • Telephone & bed control is established
  • Neatness counts - cable runs are carefully installed to be as avoidable and tidy as possible

Training

After a successful installation, ATR teaches the client and caregivers how to use the commands to control all of the chosen devices in the environment. Clearly printed instructions are also left with the client and caregivers.
